A combination of the music styles of Lorde and Katy Perry, Pittsburgh native singer/songwriter Daya [pronunciation dey-uh] first climbed the charts as a high-school junior. Born Grace Martine Tandon -- "daya" is the Hindi word for "compassion" or "mercy" as she is 1/4 Indian. She started with the piano, switching from classical to jazz at age 11, picked up the guitar and ukulele, and then found her voice along the way.
Her professional career began when she was invited to LA for a writing session with platinum songwriter and producer Gino "Farrago" Barletta in January 2015. One of the songs created in this initial songwriting session was "Hide Away," her chart climbing single. In 2015 Daya released her debut self-titled EP on Artbeatz.
Her latest single “Sit Still, Look Pretty” is currently climbing the charts, sitting in the Top 10 on the iTunes Pop chart and Top 25 on the Billboard Pop chart. Featured on her debut EP Daya, her first single “Hide Away” is platinum-certified – and quickly approaching double platinum status – garnering more than 200 million streams on Spotify, and notching Top 10 and Top 25 spots on Billboard’s Pop Songs and Hot 100 charts, respectively. Daya’s distinct vocals are also featured on The Chainsmokers’ single “Don’t Let Me Down,” which hit #1 at pop radio and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with over 465+ million streams on Spotify. Daya has taken 2016 by storm, with Rolling Stone naming her one of their “10 New Artists You Need to Know,” and InStyle including her as one of the “6 Indie Artists You Should Be Listening to in 2016,” as well as a number of high-profile performances on TODAY Show, Good Morning America, the Radio Disney Music Awards and at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll. She is currently on tour throughout the country.
Her debut album "Sit Still, Look Pretty" is currently available on iTunes.
